Dolphin Pumps: A Real Pond-Saver! By James Careless

Dolphin Pumps: A Real Pond-Saver!
By James Careless

As someone who has a 15,000 gallon outdoor pond in Ottawa, Canada – plus a 2,000 gallon indoor winter pond, because it gets cold up here! – reliable and economical pumps are an absolute must to keeping my koi happy and healthy. This is why my wife and I rely on a number of Dolphin external pumps to keep our water moving. (You may have seen articles about my ponds in issues of Koi World and Ponds USA & Water Gardens magazines.)

Actually, we’ve had a number of external and submersible pumps from a number of manufacturers over the years, but none have been as reliable, quiet, and economical as Dolphin pumps; like the Dolphin Diamond Amp Master 4750.

Seriously, Dolphin pumps do exactly what they promise. They move pond water consistently and without headaches. Just set them up and leave them be: Dolphin pumps work, year in and year old.

I like that Dolphin pumps also run cool, and come with heavy-duty pipe fittings that stand up to being connected, disconnected, and reconnected repeatedly. Dolphin’s filter baskets make it simple and easy to trap and remove waste; and also to keep an eye on debris build-up through their clear plastic lids. When the filter basket is utilized with a swing check valve there is no risk of a run dry situation leaving no room for headaches.

Overall, I have yet to ever have a Dolphin pump fail on me, even after many years of constant use. The same is not true for other manufacturers’ external pumps that have run hot, and submersible pumps whose impellers wear out all too soon.

The bottom line: If Dolphin pumps were the only pumps I could use for the rest of my ponding life, I would be a happy man. And although I can choose between a number of manufacturers’ pumps, I am sticking with Dolphin. They just plain work.
